Hand woven 100% cotton Girasol baby wraps are produced in Guatemala with traditional methods of the Maya Indians. Girasol baby wraps are wonderfully soft and adaptive. The weave type is supportive and it makes babywearing a pleasant experience. Of all the baby carriers on the market, the traditional baby wrap is the most versatile: you can use it with a newborn and up to toddler years. You can wrap the baby in dozens of different ways and it's possible to find a suitable carry to different situations. The baby wrap also fits to parents of all sizes.

Hand woven Girasol wraps are produced in Guatemala with traditional methods of the Maya Indians. Baby wraps are made of pure cotton and no chemical pretreatment is used. The threads are dyed with harmless colorants.

Girasol baby wraps are produced with diagonal weaving technique, which gives the fabric elasticity. Most wraps feel soft and comfortable as new, too. Striped designs look the same on both sides while even colored wraps are double-sided. Double-sided designs feel a little softer than the striped ones. Most designs are available both with a fringe and with diagonal ends. The name KatiWrap is used for all the colourways designed by the former Katinpuoti webshop.

There are five standard sizes available: 2,6m; 3,6m; 4,2m; 4,6m and 5,2m. The length of a wrap can vary quite alot within certain size. For example size 4,6m wrap can be anything between 4,6 and 4,9 meters. If you have difficulties with deciding between two sizes, we recommend that you take the longer one. This way the wrap won't become too short for you after washing and shrinking.

Because of the handweaving technique the wraps can contain small knots, short pieces of yarn and small yarn pulls. In hand woven Girasol wraps the loom and weft yarn is not "never ending" and for this reason, there may be some short yarn pieces sticking out of the fabric. These pieces are not broken weft or loom but simply unfinished ends of yarn at the place where the old yarn stops and the new one starts. You may string the yarn through the fabric with a needle, if you like. The new denser weave may be somewhat more varying than the old and soft weave type. This phenomenon shows more easily at those designs which have a weft colour that differs a lot from the loom stripe colours. For example Earthy Rainbow and Jungle have a red weft yarn so little variations in the weave are more visible than in many other designs. On the other hand the very same intense tone makes the colours of these wraps so unique.

All wrap designs are available as ring sling also. Ringslings are sewed in Finland and the shoulder folding is clean-cut and strong. We use big and strong aluminium rings specially made for baby slings. In big rings the fabric slides well when tightening but on the other hand the sling doesn't loosen easily by itself. Standard size suits most carriers and the sling has total length of about 200 cm. It is possible to have smaller or bigger sling by ordering.

Girasol baby wraps can be washed in 40 or 60 °C and you may iron it, too. If a new wrap feels a bit stiff, washing, tumble drying and ironing will make it softer. Please note that washing the wrap in hot water and tumble drying can make it shrink more. Ringslings can also be machine washed but we advise you to roll for example a sock around the rings.
